5280 Top Dentists

5280 just published 16 images of mine in their Top Dentist issue. It was an honor to work with 5280 (Jena Platte and Kent Odendahl) considering how professional they are. Here are some of the fruits of my labor, 500 miles and 16 different locations later:

Shop Talk

In other news, I’ve just been approved for a loan to get some more equipment. I have been borrowing my mentor/friend’s equipment (BryceBoyer.com) from the time I learned how to use strobes. For this I owe Bryce many thanks, but it’s time to move on. I will be getting some sweet gear:

The kit consists of 2 1000ws packs with built in radio receivers and three heads. Dynalites are tough, economical and great tools. These are the packs I learned studio lighting with. I made this decision after a few hours of study. After extensive research, I looked at profoto, but you get two heads and one pack for the same price as the Dynalite kit.

Pocket Wizard. Industry standard for camera/flash sync.

This is my favorite tool. It’s a Chamera small softbox with silver interior. This light has been my main light on more shoots than I can count on my fingers. It is compact, light weight and packs a dynamic lighting punch. I typically use it with the 40 degree grid to throw the background into shadow. So, any photographers looking for a great light modifier, this is my recommendation.

My innards pulse with life and my brain with ideas. This night, as we near the new moon, I feed off of the night’s energy, in restless motion. I want to work…
I think about the ideas that I have and the need to physically manifest them in this reality. This is what drives me nuts, I’m like a painter without a canvas.
Let’s revisit my favorite shoot to date:

Recent Shoots!

As you may have read in my last entry, I’ve been working with 5280 to shoot about 17 different shots. And no, these 17 different subjects did not travel to me, so 540 miles later, I had completed my task for photographing 5280’s Top Dentists. Then it was on to photoshopping the images. It was a wonderful experience and a great job to have. Also, working with 5280 was wonderful. I couldn’t have worked with more professional and responsive people.

Unfortunately, I can not display these images until the magazine is published. So, you’ll just have to wait to see the photographs :)

In the mean time, I have for you a shoot I did last sunday. It was for an album cover and project that David Dinsmore is working on:

Then, just before we broke down, we got a few pictures of the crew. This is Addie:

It was a wonderful and fun shoot to work on. I consistently get from other people that my shoots are fun : ) I really enjoyed it myself. Course, this is very much what I like to do as far as photoshoots go. I’m waiting, waiting till I can get those jobs that I love. Fashion, night abstracts, maybe both!
